NATO Phonetic Alphabet

The NATO phonetic alphabet, more accurately known as the International Radiotelephony Spelling Alphabet and also called the ICAO phonetic or ICAO spelling alphabet, as well as the ITU phonetic alphabet, is the most widely used spelling alphabet. Although often called "phonetic alphabets", spelling alphabets are not associated with phonetic transcription systems such as the International Phonetic Alphabet. Instead, the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) alphabet assigned code words acrophonically to the letters of the English alphabet so that critical combinations of letters and numbers can be pronounced and understood by those who transmit and receive voice messages by radio or telephone regardless of language barriers or the presence of transmission static.

The 26 code words in the NATO phonetic alphabet are assigned to the 26 letters of the English alphabet in alphabetical order as follows: Alfa, Bravo, Charlie, Delta, Echo, Foxtrot, Golf, Hotel, India, Juliett, Kilo, Lima, Mike, November, Oscar, Papa, Quebec, Romeo, Sierra, Tango, Uniform, Victor, Whiskey, X-ray, Yankee, Zulu.

Code words

The final choice of code words for the letters of the alphabet and for the digits was made after hundreds of thousands of comprehension tests involving 31 nationalities. The qualifying feature was the likelihood of a code word being understood in the context of others. For example, football has a higher chance of being understood than foxtrot in isolation, but foxtrot is superior in extended communication.

The pronunciation of the code words varies according to the language habits of the speaker. To eliminate wide variations in pronunciation, recordings and posters illustrating the pronunciation desired by the ICAO are available. However, there are still differences in pronunciation between the ICAO and other agencies, and the ICAO has conflicting Roman-alphabet and IPA transcriptions. Also, although all codes for the letters of the alphabet are English words, they are not in general given English pronunciations. Assuming that the transcriptions are not intended to be precise, only 11 of the 26—Bravo, Echo, Hotel, Juliet(t), Kilo, Mike, Papa, Quebec, Romeo, Whiskey, and Zulu—are given English pronunciations by all these agencies, though not always the same English pronunciations.

RIM has announced a new concept phone, the BlackBerry Empathy, that displays the moods of your contacts. It would work by connecting the device to a biometric ring (mood ring) that would monitor and transmit your mood in real time. The BlackBerry Empathy was intended to integrate real human emotions with social networking.

Yes. This makes a lot of sense. As if there's not enough of your life on-line without broadcasting your pulse and temperature to your cyber-never-mets. Do they have digital suppositories in development too?

The so called mood rings don't measure your mood but your temperature. Your temperature gives no conclusion on your mood. Mood rings don't work. Blackberry won't sell this.

Batch files can be fun, but they don't last because eventually the victim will just close the 50 new windows that just popped up. With this batch file,Windows will open up again and again indefinitely.

Not harmful in anyway shape or form, but can be very scary for someone if they don't know what is happening (could be misconstrued as a virus attack), or at the very lease be especially annoying because the new windows just pop back up faster than they can be exited.

1. Open up Notepad.
2. Copy the following code as it is shown:

7. Open the batch file. It will make 10 new folders and open them. If you try to close a folder, it will re-open automatically!
8. Close the command prompt to prevent the folders from reopening.

The European Extremely Large Telescope (E-ELT) is a ground-based extremely large telescope for the optical/near-infrared range, that is being planned by the European Southern Observatory (ESO). Early designs included a filled single aperture mirror with a diameter of 42 metres and area of about 1300 m2, with a secondary mirror with a diameter of 5.9 m. However, in 2011 a proposal was put forward to reduce its size by 13% to 978 m2, for a 39.3 m diameter primary mirror and a 4.2 m diameter secondary mirror. This reduces the projected costs from 1.275 billion to 1.055 billion euros and should allow the telescope to be finished sooner. However, it will likely make it harder for the telescope to image Earthlike exoplanets, though that goal is still possible.

Iron Samurai LED Watch

I think these are some pretty cool accessories that are functional at the same time which is great. How reliable are they? It's a cool design, like an iron wrist braclet but an LED clock is neat-o to me.

Prezi - The Zooming Presentation Editor is a rather cool presentation tool, somewhat complicated but if used well the extra work will definitely pay off.

In my opinion the two (2) outstanding features from prezi that make it really stand out are Storyline  and Present online/offline.
The storyline is super cool because unlike traditional presentation tools that go from slide to slide, line by line, the storyline is more like the telling of a story, which can (if done well) keep the audience engaged and draw them in. Between all the options for adding flips, spins, zooms, images, videos and a whole host of other editing options the hazard of new users becoming overwhelmed and making a mess of their presentation or a simply over saturation of unnecessary special effects that can lead to headaches and incoherent storyline resulting in a counterproductive presentation. Fortunately the user interface is very straight forward and there is lots of information on Prezi's website to make users new at Prezi avoid the common mishaps.

The ability to present online and offline is also useful in my opinion in cases where the project is needed to be accessed by several people and/or multiple locations. Storing an up to date presentation on a cloud drive means everyone involved is able to access the newest version from anywhere without having the bother of emailing every single update.

Prezi is definitely worth a test drive and for everyone who has a regular need for creating presentations and especially students, I highly recommend incorporating Prezi into your technical arsenal because even though Powerpoint is the standard, sometimes you need a more complex presentation tool.

Track Who Views Your Facebook Page Now

Hello,

There are still no apps, plug-ins, programs, tools, websites or anything else that will show you who has viewed your Facebook page. Security requirements and technology do not currently support any kind of visitor identification features. At best, I think using IP (Internet Protocol) logging and location verification, users could see house/company the computer visiting is located, but for seeing specific users you would need cookies, ideally engineered by Facebook but that would raise a whole host of controversy and as of Facebook going public they need to keep their reputation better than ever so the likelihood of an intrusive tracking cookie is smaller than before.

However, if I learn of anyway to see who views your Facebook profile I will share with you guys. So stay tuned and subscribe.

James Cameron piloting the  DeepSea Challenge became the first person to make a solo dive to the deepest place on Earth. The endeavor was one of scientific discovery in a new age of exploration, and its success will give us a better understanding of this least explored environment and the secrets and lessons it holds.

We know less about the deepest points on our planet than we do about the surface of Mars. The DeepSea Challenge team is dedicated to advancing the world’s understanding of our ocean’s vast range of biological and geological phenomena. The historic expedition to the Mariana Trench’s lowest point, the Challenger Deep, which lies 6.83 miles (10.99 kilometers) below the ocean surface, is the first extensive scientific exploration in a manned submersible of the deepest spot on Earth. Piloting the DeepSea Challenge , which is outfitted for scientific exploration, James Cameron was able to conduct tests, collect samples, and document the experience from the pilot sphere.
